Position Title: Elementary School Principal
Current Assignment: New Haven Elementary School
Start Date: July 1, 2025
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid NYS School Building Leader certification or equivalent
- Experience as a building administrator at the elementary level preferred but not required
- Strong commitment to children
- Demonstrated leadership skills in the areas of curriculum development, program evaluation, staff development, and school improvement
- Knowledge of the New York State Learning Standards and ability to evaluate effective classroom instruction
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- In-depth knowledge of evidence-based foundational literacy and numeracy instructional strategies and techniques
- Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assumes responsibility for the administration and supervision of all operations required for running an effective elementary school. These include: a) scheduling and time management; b) budgeting and accounting for expenditures; c) distributing and accounting for supplies, materials and equipment; d) preparing required reports, records and lists; e) supervising the use and care of the building, furniture, equipment and supplies; f) maintaining appropriate pupil and teacher personnel records
2. Provides leadership in the implementation, maintenance and evaluation of the instructional program at the building level
3. Supervises the instructional staff and support staff at the elementary school
4. Supervises the elementary school students at all times when they are the responsibility of the District
5. Assumes responsibility for organizing and conducting curriculum projects
6. Provides assistance to the Superintendent and other administrators in carrying out other activities related to the administration of the District
7. Recommends to the Superintendent the appointment of professional, paraprofessional and clerical staff members
8. Provides leadership and direction in the coordination of the elementary instructional program and the implementation of District-wide objectives at the building level
9. Supervises the development and administration of the instructional budget
10. Conducts the evaluation process of professional, paraprofessional and clerical staff
11. Contributes to the supervision of custodial care, maintenance, renovation, and safety of the buildings and grounds
12. Contributes to the creation and implementation of staff development and in-service programs
13. Assists in the design, implementation and evaluation of new educational programs
14. Works cooperatively with other staff members in the development and implementation of District goals
15. Works cooperatively with parents and provides support in the interpretation of the school program to the community
16. Keeps the Superintendent informed of school activities and any concerns
17. Performs other administrative and supervisory duties as assigned by the Superintendent
Terms of Employment:
- Full-time, probationary appointment
- Twelve-month position
- Salary based on qualifications and experience
- Benefits per contract
