MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
? Must be a “reachable” candidate on the current Typist Civil Service exam list or meet the minimum requirements for provisional appointment to the Typist title
? Graduation from High School or equivalency diploma
? Minimum of 1-year experience in clerical position involving keyboarding
? Ability to communicate effectively, both orally, and in writing
? Ability to deal effectively with the public
? Ability to set up forms, charts, and tabular listings
? Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
? Ability to organize and maintain records and files
? Knowledge of office terminology, practices, and procedures
? Knowledge of Business Math and English
? Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
? Full-time, permanent or provisional appointment
? 12-month position
? $35,873.00 per year (2025-2026 school year)
? Benefits as per contract

VACANCY NOTICE

POSITION TITLE:              Senior Account Clerk

ASSIGNMENT:                   Business Office - Mexico Central Schools

CERTIFICATION:              Civil Service - Competitive Class

START DATE:                     As soon as possible

 

PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:

Typical activities characteristic of the class.

  • Performs payroll for the entire District
  • Performs complex payroll computations and transactions
  • Prepares be-weekly, monthly, quarterly & annual payroll reports, including internal, county, state and federal
  • Manages payroll deductions and retirement system transactions
  • Reviews a variety of more complex financial documents, classifies them and distributes items into a variety of accounts according to prescribed procedures and policies;
  • Posts figures to appropriate accounts, makes all necessary adjustments in balances and verifies and reconciles balances;
  • Renews status of accounts as adjustments are made and takes appropriate action such as authorizing payment, issuing checks or preparing bills;
  • Tracks, audits and monitors a variety of accounts and verifies that adjustments are made to correct allocations;
  • Prepares more complex financial or statistical summary reports;
  • Checks for accuracy of computations and completeness or supervises the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports which are compiled into summary reports or claims for Federal or State reimbursement;
  • Keys forms, form letters, transcripts, invoices, vouchers, records, payrolls, reports, letters, memoranda;
  • Prepares funds for deposit into accounts;
  • Reconciles accounts and prepares reports from information;
  • Contacts clients, vendors or other agencies to obtain additional information;
  • Provides information orally or in writing in response to inquiries on status of accounts;
  • Processes, sorts, indexes, records and files a variety of control records and reports;
  • May assist in preparation of figures and reports for use in budget preparation;

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF:  double entry bookkeeping and business arithmetic; methods used in maintaining financial records and reports; office terminology, practices and procedures.

ABILITY TO:  plan, assign, and review the work of others; organize and maintain records and files; analyze and organize data; prepare and maintain records and reports; understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; develop and maintain effective working relationship; make arithmetic computations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Completion of 60 credit hours at a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university which must have included at least 12 credit hours in accounting and one (1) year of experience maintaining financial accounts and records by posting figures to appropriate accounts, reconciling debits and credits, processing of payroll, vouchers and bills, and verifying calculations; OR

 

  1. Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience as described in "B" above; OR

 

  1. Four (4) years of experience as described in "B" above; OR

 

  1. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of "B," "C," and "D" above.

  • Full-time, probationary or provisional appointment
  • 12-month position
  • $45,531.00 per year
  • Benefits as per MACS Secretarial and Office Staff Association Contract
