PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:

Typical activities characteristic of the class.

  • Makes skilled repairs to gasoline and diesel motor equipment, including trucks, tractors, and buses
  • Repairs or replaces motors, pumps, fuel pumps, generators, carburetors and shock absorbers
  • Repairs ignition systems, transmissions, brake systems, clutches and front and rear axles
  • Adjusts connecting rods and bearings
  • Directs, assigns and checks minor repairs and maintenance performed by helpers
  • Adjusts steering mechanisms and aligns wheels
  • Makes minor welding repairs to automotive equipment
  • Tunes engine and sets the timing
  • Attaches and removes snowplow blades and may service snowmobiles, boats and other equipment
  • Operate a school bus on a regular schedule or on special occasions
  • Maintains orderly conduct of children on bus
  • May clean and maintain department garage
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Superintendent of Schools

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, specialized background, training and experience.

  • One year of full-time paid experience in skilled automotive repair
  • Minimum “CDL B” license with “PS” endorsement and air brakes
  • Must meet all DMV requirements for School Bus Driver
  • Must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education
  • Operate a bus under difficult driving and road conditions
  • Follow simple oral and written directions
  • Mental alertness and dependability
  • Possess basic skills required to deal with behavior management  

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Full-time, 12-month position
  • Probationary appointment
  • $67,438.00 per year (2025-2026 school year)
  • Benefits based on CSEA contract
  • Hours of work: 8 hours per day
  • Hours may vary per supervisor’s discretion to meet district needs

POSITION CLASS DEFINITION:
Essential nature of work, degree of difficulty and responsibility.

This work involves responsibility for assisting the School Bus Driver in maintaining order on the bus and for overseeing the loading and unloading of student passengers.  This position also administers to student needs, comfort, and conduct while in transit on school bus trips. 

Supervision is exercised over the conduct of student passengers. Individuals work under the direct supervision of a Transportation Supervisor or designee.

 

PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:

Typical activities characteristic of the class.

  • Maintains order on the bus and makes certain that passengers are seated while bus is in motion;
  • Rides on a school bus for the purposes of assisting students to climb aboard/exit from the bus;
  • Aids disabled or special need students to get on and off the bus and be seated;
  • Seats and places students as required;
  • Assists students in disengaging safety and restraining equipment prior to leaving the bus;
  • Delivers incident log and makes oral report to bus driver at conclusion of workday;
  • Assists students and driver as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Superintendent of Schools.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Summary of full performance level characteristics.

ABILITY TO: get along well with students and command their respect; understand and follow simple oral and written directions; physical condition commensurate with the position; properly use an infrared thermometer after training.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF: the various bus routes and bus stops for students in the district; basic first aid methods.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, specialized background, training and experience.

  • Must meet NYSED and Civil Service requirements for School Bus Aide
  • Possess basic skills required to deal with behavior management
  • Fingerprint clearance through NYSED is required

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • 10-month, probationary position
  • Approximately 20 hours per week
  • $16.00 per hour
  • Benefits eligibility determined per CSEA contract

POSITION CLASS DEFINITION:

Operates a light motor vehicle in transporting passengers or materials; does related work as required.

This position involves responsibility for the safe and economical operation of an automobile, station wagon, mini-bus, pick-up or light delivery truck. It requires a willingness to perform a variety of routine tasks. The work is performed under the general supervision in accordance with established policies.

 

PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Transports children or adults to and from school;
  • Operates a light motor vehicle in transporting supplies, equipment, food and mail;
  • Performs a variety of errands requiring use of automobile or other light motor vehicle
  • Checks oil, tires, mileage and gasoline;
  • Washes and cleans vehicle and suggests needed repairs;
  • Keeps simple clerical records;
  • May perform routine clerical or other office tasks when not engaged in driving

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Good knowledge of the geography and traffic laws of the area;
  • Ability to operate an automobile or light delivery truck; to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; willingness to perform routine manual tasks; dependability; good physical condition.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must meet all NYSED and DMV requirements for Motor Vehicle Operator – CDL Class C license or better, with Passenger Endorsement. Possession of license at time of appointment.
